Around the world during the COVID pandemic, governments have shut their borders to travel and/or applied quarantine, testing, and vaccination requirements. More locally, restrictions on access to long-term care homes and hospitals are their own kind of border control. Border closures can work to stymie the spread of a virus, but they come at many costs. Should we (and how should we) rethink our approach to borders, both in the context of COVID and in pandemics to come?

This conference will bring together researchers from across disciplines, lawyers, healthcare providers, and policy makers. Panelists include Raywat Deonandan, Tim Evans, Colleen Flood, Lisa Forman, Sam Halabi, Steven Hoffman, Jeff King, Kelly Lee, Audrey Macklin, Jane Philpott, and many more.
